Orson Chapter 7

Hey folks. Here’s chapter 7 in the ongoing work in progress “Orson”. If you need to catch up you can find all the chapters here: Orson Novel.  I think every 10 chapters or so I’ll collect them into one single file so you don’t have to open a new file each chapter. Or maybe you’re printing them off individually… that’d be how I’d do it.

Little story behind this chapter. Part of the original concept of this novel was to have each chapter be written in a different medium (diary entries, blog posts, book excerpts) that idea has been scaled back so there’s some chapters that are just straight-up novel. This chapter is written as a movie script excerpt written by one of the characters. When I originally wrote this, my girlfriend at the time (currently single now, ladies…) said it was similar to a movie we had just seen. And, it is. But what of it? I think it’s fairly clear by now if you’ve been checking in on this site, that many of my ideas are influenced heavily by other works. I’m pretty sure that’s how art is supposed to work.

I was going to ditch this chapter because it seemed to similar, but today in rewriting, I said “Screw her! This is barely similar, and plus I like it, and double-plus even if it is similar, it makes complete sense that this character would be influenced by other art just as I am.” Or words to that effect.

I find a frightening amount of things I do and create are inspired by “revenge” or “proving people who’ve wronged me wrong.” That’s probably a weakness. But, it’s a weakness that you benefit from.

In other news. I’m doing a Stand-up comedy set tonight and I’m planning on posting it here tomorrow. The written version of it… although I do plan to post a video of it sometime too. My Stand-up tends towards the “story-telling” kind, so it should work either way. So, you’ve got that to look forward to tomorrow.

  1. He is a mess… I’m afraid I don’t remember what the next chapters with him involve… I think his character slides into the background of other more “exciting” plots.

    • There are/were plans for him, who knows. I just recall him becoming an outlying character to the connections of the other characters. But, that may also just be reflective of his character in general.
